    Dear Parent/Carer,

    Please see below for some important notices about school life: 

     

    Year 6 PGL Parent Information Meeting for ear 6 parents/carers
    On Monday 29th November at 9am we will be holding a meeting about the Year 6 summer residential trip. We will use this time to share information with you as well as providing an opportunity for you to ask any questions. If you are unsure as to whether you want to send your child on the PGL trip, or just want to know more, this is a good opportunity to ask any questions you have. We aim to be finished by 09:30. It would be great to have as many of you there as possible. If you cannot make it, we will be able to email you a copy of the presentation.

    The Flu Immunisation Programme will take place in school by Vaccination UK for children who were unable to have the Immunisation on the previous visit

     

    Upcoming School Trips

    29/11/21-Cherry Class-Lea Valley School Visit
    We have recently made links with Lea Valley School to give our children the opportunity to access resources and subject specialists that we do not have in school. As such, we have organised for your child’s year group to attend Lea Valley School on Monday 29th November for Tag Rugby lessons. This will support the children’s learning, as their current PE topic is Tag Rugby.

     

    03/12/2021- Pear Class- Festival of Carols
    This is an event run by Broxbourne Council with fifteen local schools taking part. Children from Hurst Drive will be performing a 30-minute carol concert from inside the Pavilions Shopping Centre in Waltham Cross. Parents/carers of Pear Class are welcome to attend to support the children and enjoy their festive singing.

     

    02/12/21-Cedar Class- Lea Valley School Visit
    We have recently made links with Lea Valley School to give our children the opportunity to access resources and subject specialists that we do not have in school. As such, we have organised for your child’s year group to attend Lea Valley School on Thursday 2nd December to design a web page. This will complement their current topic of Web Page Design.

     

    6/12/21-Hawthorn Class-Lea Valley School Visit
    We have recently made links with Lea Valley School to give our children the opportunity to access resources and subject specialists that we do not have in school. As such, we have organised for your child’s year group to attend Lea Valley School on Monday 6th December for Tag Rugby lessons. This will support the children’s learning, as their current PE topic is Tag Rugby.

     

    08/12/21- Choir Club Festival of Carols

    Dear Parent/Carer,

    Please see below for some important notices about school life: 

     

    Parking

    A big thank you to all parent/carers who are continuing to support us in creating a safer street for Hurst Drive. Parking at drop off and pick up times has greatly improved and we have had many parents/carers and local residents thanking the School for the improvement. Thank you to those parent/carers who also support our staff members by collecting the cones.

     

    Hurst Drive Catering Team

    Congratulations to our amazing school catering team for winning Primary School Catering Team of the Year for Region B.

     

    Cricket Workshop

    Due to unforeseen circumstances, the cricket workshops have been cancelled and will not resume this half term. We apologise to all children who participated and may be disappointed by this news, cancellation of the workshop was out of our control.

    23/11/21- Year 6 Heights and Weights (School Nurses)
    School Nurses will be in school to take the Heights and Weights of all Year 6 children.

We will walk to Lea Valley School, leaving school at around 2:00pm with the aim to arrive back to school at 3:40pm.
     

    22/11/21- Year 1 Cedars Park Trip
    As the Year 1 English topic this term is ‘Voices in the Park’ we have organised for the children to visit Cedars Park on Monday 22nd November. As this is part of the English Curriculum, the children will be writing a recount of their trip to the park.

     

    25/11/21- Mulberry Class Trip Lea Valley School
    We have recently made links with Lea Valley School to give our children the opportunity to access resources and subject specialists that we do not have in school. As such, we have organised for your child’s year group to attend Lea Valley School on Thursday 25th November to make a clay tile. This will complement their current topic of Viking Art. We will walk to Lea Valley School, leaving school at around 2:00pm with the aim to arrive back to school at 3:40pm.

    Dear Parent/Carer,

     

    Please see below for some important notices about school life: 

     

    Birthday Treats

     

    Please can we remind all parents/carers that we are a nut-free school. If you are sending in treats for your child’s class to celebrate their birthday, you must make sure they do not contain nuts. To avoid any disappointment, please check the label as anything that says it contains or may contain nuts will not be shared with the class and they will be returned with the child. A nice alternative to treats could be a book that can be added to the class library for all to enjoy.

     

    Smoking


    A polite reminder to parents that smoking is not permitted on the school playground or directly outside the school gates.

    Our Christmas Fayre has a German Market theme this year – Saturday 4th December 11am- 2pm. Please see the poster attached to the weekly emailed newsletter.


    School Meals


    If you child has any allergies or dietary requirements please fill out the form here. It is important that the school are made aware of these requirements in case of any unforeseen changes to the school meal menu.

     

    A Listening Ear


    A listening ear is an in-house listening service that is on offer Wednesday afternoons.

    Mrs Hudson is there to listen –without judgement - to anything that you need to talk about, she can offer advice or signpost you to a service that can cater to your specific needs. Whatever you need to talk about, A Listening Ear is there. Mrs Bye will lead sessions focussing on behaviour at home.

    Sessions are booked online via the link on the school website. Please click here.

    It is a service to use as and when you need it and is not in place of professional counselling. 


    Contactline


    Contactline is a free service that enables parent/carers to speak directly to an Educational Psychologist where you can discuss a child or young person’s development, learning or emotional wellbeing. To find out more please view the attachment on the weekly emailed newsletter.

    Poppy Appeal
    Next week (Monday-Wednesday) children will have the opportunity to donate and receive an item from the poppy appeal.

    Video Resource Centre

    To support parent/carers in guiding children with their learning at home teachers have created narrated seminars, which you can access by clicking here. These easy to follow videos explain key English and Mathematic concepts.

     

    PE Kits
    As the weather has now turned colder it is important that the children have appropriate clothing for outdoor PE. This should include a plain navy sweatshirt or hoodie, plain navy jogging bottoms, trainers or plimsolls and bag to store the PE kit (e.g. drawstring bag).     Hertfordshire's School Admissions Consultation 2023/24

    Hertfordshire County Council is running a consultation on the proposed admissions arrangements for the school year 2023/24 and is seeking responses from parent/carers, schools and community groups.

     

    The proposed changes are:

     

    1.       To amend the definition and explanation for home address, where two applications are received for the same child

     

    2.       To amend the oversubscription criteria for Pirton Primary School

     

    3.       To reduce the published admission number (PAN) at five community primary schools

    Just Talk

    Just Talk is Hertfordshire’s mental health and wellbeing campaign, involving over 35 local organisations and co-produced with young people.  

     

    This year’s Just Talk Week is coming 15-21 November! This year, Just Talk is focusing on the importance of kindness – how we can all benefit from being a little kinder to ourselves, and each other. Young people, as well as their parents and carers are invited to get involved and promote positive mental health in Herts. 

     

    Following the success of 2020’s event, this year’s campaign week will also be taking place online. You and/or your children will be able to access a range of FREE informational webinars throughout the week, on important topics including:- 

    • How to look after your own wellbeing 
    • Coping with stress and anxiety 
    • Managing conflict within the family 
    • Supporting mental health in young people with neurodiversity 
    • Healthy eating  
    • The benefits of physical activity  
    • Daily mindfulness sessions  

     

    There will also be a host of great content on the Just Talk social media across campaign week, from the many partners that work together on the Just Talk campaign, and the inspirational Mental Health Ambassador and Speaker Antonio Ferreira, who has lived experience of mental health issues and how to get through them.
