Music

At Hurst Drive Primary School, music is taught in Reception, KS1 and KS2 using the Sing Up Music Scheme.

The children learn to listen and appraise music, giving their thoughts and opinions about lots of different genres of music. They also learn to sing songs or play instruments to accompany music before ultimately performing the finished piece as a class to recognise the progress they’ve made in their singing and instrument-playing abilities. All children take part in weekly singing assemblies where they learn a range of songs and enjoy singing in unison with others.

As well as studying music for an hour every week, the children also have opportunities to perform music to an audience.  All of our children participate in a class assembly to parents and carers annually where they will perform songs or music they have been studying. In the Autumn Term, all children perform in our Christmas concerts and our Year 6 children take part in a wonderful end of year musical production.

We offer music as part of our clubs at Hurst Drive. Children from KS1 and KS2 can choose to participate in the steel pans club and KS2 children can attend the Monday lunchtime choir. As well as performing in our Year 6 Leavers Assembly, the choir have opportunities throughout the year to perform in public to a range of audiences.

We are always looking for ways to extend our musical provision at Hurst Drive, if you are a parent or carer who can play an instrument and would like to share this with us, or if you have ideas for further music development, please contact the office to speak with Mrs Forrest who is our Music Lead.
