Newsletter - w/c 13/05/19
Tue 14 May 2019Please find below the weekly newsletter containing important information.
Year 6 SATs
Starting on Monday, the Year 6 children will take their Standardised Assessment Tests (SATs). The results we gain in these tests are one way that the Department for Education check our school is providing a good quality of education for the children - pleasingly, our school has performed well since the new, harder tests came into force in 2016.
Please know that although we encourage every child to take the tests seriously and work to the very best of their ability, we do not place undue stress on the children. One of the ways we try to relax them ahead of sitting each test is by putting on a free breakfast club for the children in Year 6.
On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week, the Year 6 children are invited to arrive at school for 7:45am (or thereafter) to eat breakfast with their friends and talk to their Year 6 teachers about the day's tests. The children should enter the school via the main entrance area to meet their friends and teachers in the dining hall.
We look forward to seeing all of Year 6 bright and early on Monday morning.
Parent/Carer Swearing
Some parents and carers are swearing on the school playground or just outside of school at the start and at the end of the school day. We need all parents and carers to make an effort to use polite language around the children. Children need to learn how to speak kindly and professionally so that when they grow up they are able to be successful in whatever career they choose.
A few years ago, the NSPCC published a dramatic advert for adults, showing them that children are always listening and watching how we behave. We must make sure we set a good example to every child. Please click the link below to watch the video - warning: the advert contains language and scenes some adults may find upsetting:

We thank you for your understanding and we hope everyone will make a special effort moving forwards to keep the swearing away from the children.
School Uniform - September 2019 onward
Starting in September 2019, like the children in Reception and KS1, all children in KS2 will wear a white polo shirt with their jumper or cardigan instead of a shirt and tie.
We are informing you now so that you have time to purchase a white polo shirt to replace any shirt your child owns currently.
Moving forwards, we would like as many children as possible wearing full school uniform, including the school-branded jumper or cardigan and smart black shoes that are not trainers. As your child grows and you need to buy them a new jumper or cardigan, please aim to purchase a school-branded one, ensuring you write your child's name in permanent market on all labels on the item of clothing and give your child a firm talking to about keeping their personal property safe!
If you have any school-branded jumpers or cardigans at home that your child has outgrown, please bring them to the office as we can then offer them up to other families.
Recycling - Plastic Drinks Bottles and Drinks Cans
A parent in our school community works for a company who are trialling some new machines that recycle plastic bottles and cans.
Starting on Monday, we will put out some boxes or bin liners on the playground to collect these from you on your way in.
Please make sure the bottles and/or cans have been rinsed out with water.
Thank you.
School Website Update
We are having our website updated late next week which means things will look slightly different but you will still be able to log on as normal.
End of day collection times
Please note the school day finishes at 3:15 pm. Can we please remind you that your children need to be collected at this time. Can we also please remind you to contact the office during the school day if you have a friend or family member collecting your child who is not on your contact list.
Late Collection
If you have recently collected your child late from school, you will receive a letter about this. Please be aware that if it appears that a parent/carer may be being neglectful in ensuring their child is collected on time, we will make a referral to Children's Services.
As always, thank you to those parents and carers who always collect their children on time. It allows those children to feel safe and secure and it allows school staff to complete the many other tasks they need to get done which cannot be completed during school hours.

Newsletter - w/c 06/05/19
Mon 06 May 2019Please find below the weekly newsletter containing important information that has been e-mailed to parents and carers..
Wednesday 8th May 2019 - National Walk or Bike to School Day
This Wednesday, children are invited to walk or bike to school to celebrate National Walk or Bike to School Day. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 should leave their bikes in the bike shed on the front playground. Children in Years 3-6 should walk their bike round to the back playground. At lunchtime, we will cordon off parts of the playground and the field so the children may ride their bikes.
If you usually drive, consider parking a few streets away on this day and walking the rest of the distance so your child can take part too.
Year 6 Prom 2019
We will be sending a letter out after SATs week, which starts Monday 13th May 2019, to parents/carers of children in Year 6 about their prom. For your information, the two options are as follows: school staff host the event in school or a group of parents/carers host the prom in a venue of their choice. If parents/carers organise the prom, we do organise an amount of money to go towards funding the prom and this is discussed with the group of parents/carers who put themselves forward to be the hosting committee.
Tea Towels
KS1 & KS2 tea towels will be on sale in the front playground before school between Tuesday 7th and Friday 9th May.
Healthy Break-Time Snack
The government provide free fruit and vegetables for children in Reception, Years 1 and 2 on a daily basis.
In Years 3, 4, 5 and 6, we allow children to bring in some fruit, vegetables and/or a cereal bar as a mid-morning snack. Children are not allowed to eat crisps, cookies or chocolate bars at break time. Please know that any child seen with a snack which is not fruit, vegetables or a cereal bar will be told to return it to their packed lunch box or schoolbag. Some of the most popular choices for a healthy snack in our school include:
- Red pepper sticks
- Carrot sticks
- Sliced cucumber
- Red or green apple
- An orange cut into quarters
- Berries (e.g. strawberries, blueberries etc.)
We thank you for supporting your child to make healthy choices.
Dinner Money
Just a quick reminder that dinner money needs to be paid in advance on a Monday. Our preferred method of payment is on School Gateway. If you are unable to pay on the School Gateway, please come into the office with the correct money in an envelope. The weekly cost of school dinners is £12.50 for five meals.
If you receive a dinner debt letter please make sure this is cleared straight away to avoid your child having to bring in a packed lunch until the debt is cleared. Unpaid dinner debts could result in the cost of the school dinner charge being increased in the future which would be unfair for those parents/carers who always pay on time.
After the Easter half term the office will have a limited supply of envelopes. Please make sure you bring in an envelope with the correct money, your child’s name, class, how much it’s containing and what this is for i.e. Dinner/Trip money.
End of day collection times
Please note the school day finishes at 3:15 pm. Can we please remind you that your children need to be collected at this time. Can we also please remind you to contact the office during the school day if you have a friend or family member collecting your child who is not on your contact list.
