Spanish (KS2 Only)

At Hurst Drive Primary School, Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) is taught weekly in Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6) in line with the National Curriculum. 

We teach it using the resources from the Language Angels website. The language that we learn is Spanish, and we try to make links with speaking it wherever we can throughout school; this includes when we are answering the register, thanking people for holding doors open and following simple commands in the classroom.  Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are also able to use these simple phrases.

Our pupils learn to listen to new vocabulary and sentences, before repeating it back and then applying in a conversation.  They also develop the skills of reading and writing in Spanish too, which is something new we are trying this year to help develop their learning further and it is working well.  The enthusiasm shown from our children towards languages is wonderful to see and hear!
