Year 2 Letter
We are fast approaching the end of the school year and your child will be moving from Infants into Juniors (year 3) in September.
As you may be aware, Universal Infant Free School Meals only apply to Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children. As from September, any school meals taken by your child will be charged to you at £2.35 per meal. However, you may qualify for Free School Meals if you receive any of the following benefits listed below;
- Income Support
- Income Based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit element) or (Income Related) Employment Support Allowance
- Child Tax Credit
In addition to your child receiving free school meals, Hurst Drive Primary School will be able to claim a £1320 grant from the Government each year called the Pupil Premium. This grant helps fund extra-curricular activities such as after school clubs and trips.
We are asking all parents and carers of current year 2 children to please make sure that they register with Hertsdirect so that we may access the grant. Once registered, your child may also be eligible for help with the costs of music lessons, bike lessons, bus/train travel and help with school trips.
Please apply even if your child may be having a packed lunch as the school will receive additional funding for the claim which will in turn, benefit your child.
If you would like to apply please call 0300 123 4048 to register a claim. You will need your National Insurance Number and your child’s details for this. You can also apply online at www.hertsdirect.org/freeschoolmeals.
